Glossary
Key terms used across oripa.cards.
Box
A game instance containing a fixed number of packs. Each box is built around a curated set of real trading cards and has a set price per pack. Once all packs are opened or the box is retired, it is complete.
Pack
A single slot within a box. Each pack is pre-assigned a result — either a card prize or Reward Points (RP) — before the box goes live. You purchase a pack to reveal its contents.
Slab
A graded trading card sealed in a protective case by a professional grading service (PSA, BGS, or CGC). The case includes a label with the card's grade and certificate number. "Slab" is the common term collectors use for graded cards.
Grading
The process of having a trading card professionally evaluated for condition and authenticity. Services like PSA, BGS, and CGC score cards on a 1–10 scale. Higher grades indicate better condition and typically command higher value.
Reward Points (RP)
The non-card result in a pack. When you open a pack and do not win a card, you receive Reward Points — a spendable balance you redeem for real products in the Reward Shop. See Points.
Reward Shop
Where you spend Reward Points. You redeem RP for real, physical products — sealed products, guards, slabs, and more added over time — and we ship them to you.
Experience Points (XP)
Your progression score. You earn XP on every paid pack open, and from quests. XP is earned-only — it is never spent, traded, or cashed out. It only accumulates and builds your player level. See Points.
Referral Code
A unique code attached to an account and used to build that account's invite link. Referral codes are normalized to uppercase when applied.
Referral Commission
The USDC a referrer earns from a referral's pack spend — 0.5% of every qualifying paid pack open, for the lifetime of the referral. Accrues to a withdrawable balance. See Referrals.
Qualifying Volume
A referral's gross spend on paid pack opens (USDC or Coinflow) that referral commission is calculated against. Free opens and code-based opens do not count.
Commitment
A cryptographic hash of a pack's result, generated before the box goes live. The commitment locks in the result so it cannot be changed. When the pack is opened, the platform reveals the result and the proof, which anyone can verify against the original commitment.
Reveal
The moment a pack is opened and its pre-committed result is shown to the buyer, along with the cryptographic proof that the result was not altered.
Commit-Reveal Scheme
The fairness mechanism used on oripa.cards. Results are committed (hashed) before the box launches, then revealed with proof when packs are opened. This ensures no result can be changed after the box goes live.
Finite Pool
The core mechanic of oripa. A box contains a fixed number of packs with pre-assigned results. Every open removes a result from the pool. The pool only shrinks — it never refills.
Stale Box
A box where demand has dropped significantly, usually after the top prizes have been pulled. The platform may retire a stale box rather than letting it sit indefinitely.
Buyback
An option to sell a card prize back to the platform at a guaranteed floor price, instead of claiming the physical card.
Claim
Requesting physical delivery of a card you own. Claiming burns the card's NFT and ships the graded slab to you from the vault. Distinct from Buyback, which sells the card back for USDC.
Marketplace
The secondary market where players buy, sell, and trade cards with one another. Trades settle on-chain and are final once completed.
Listing (Ask)
An offer to sell a card you own for a set price in USDC. It appears on the Marketplace until it sells or you cancel it.
Offer (Bid)
An offer to buy a card for a set price in USDC, which the owner can accept. You need enough spendable USDC in your wallet to cover a bid.
Swap
A direct card-for-card trade between two players. A swap can include multiple cards on each side, plus USDC on one side to balance the trade.
Platform Fee
The fee taken on the USDC side of a Marketplace sale or swap. It is never charged on a card itself, so a pure card-for-card swap has no fee.
NFT
On oripa.cards, an NFT represents ownership of a specific physical card in the vault. It is not the collectible itself — it is your proof of ownership and the key to claim the card.
USDC
A stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, used for purchasing packs, Marketplace trades, and buyback payouts on oripa.cards.
VRF (Verifiable Random Function)
A cryptographic method some platforms use to prove that a random number was generated fairly. oripa.cards uses a commit-reveal scheme instead — results are pre-determined and locked before the box opens, rather than generated randomly at the time of opening.
